This post is a tribute to a huge inpiration of mine! People pay tribut to legendary pioneers all the time but rarely to people in my industry ‘The contempary Christian’ industry as it’s been labelled.
With this post I pay tribute to ‘Commission’ member Icie. Everyone who has heard hiim knows he is a talented lyricist and wordsmith but it’s deeper than that.
‘Commision’ (Christian garage duo) helped pioneer and spearhead a movement. Icie and Bless MC are quality MC’s who have been doing this thing for a while. Their positive Christian content and unique flow and style has blessed many and they have paved the way and made it easier for loads of new MC’s and rappers coming through in the Christian industry.
For me growing up looking at Kano and D Double E as main inspirations, when I first heard Commission, i thought wow…someone that has good content and are actually good, and it’s this exact reaction that has drawn loads of people to this new movement of gospel grime/garage and also brought them closer to Christ.
I salute you guys and thank God for using you to great effect. This video below related to me so much because Icie shows us who he is behind the mic. It’s more than lyrics and its like the dude was my mouthpeice for a sec. My sentiments and thoughts exactly.
A wise man told me ‘difference always wins’. He wern’t a great historian or theologian, it was Icie from gospel group ‘commission’ that said that still lol Still a cool dude though!
When he said that I thought about it for a while and realized it’s quite a fair statement to make.

Dizzee Rascal…DIFFERENT!!
Now Dizzee came from the same background as me. Grew up on a council estate in East London, typical London boi!
He started MC’ing and was unique from the offset. His rhymescheme, his concepts, his tone of voicewas second to none! You could tell it was him by just hearing him say one word. He stood out!
He was doing grime music at the time…the same as everyone else. Same old eskimo dance and sidewinder hype ting but he changed the face of underground grime by stepping out of the box i think.
I think him along with Wiley were veterans! Dizzee in my opinion started commercial grime. Tracks like ‘Fix Up..Look sharp’, ‘Jus a Rascal’ and ‘I luv u’ were so different at the time. He took a leap and decided he wanted to be different and it worked for him.
He got a few album deals and left his label. Now he’s set up his own label and has already had a number 1. He just got his second number 1 this week with a track called ‘Bonkers’.
Considering where he came from this track is the epitomy of DIFFERENT!
God knows what to call it lol but the fact of the matter is people who set themselves apart from the rest and try to bring something fresh new and different seem to always get the best results.
I respect what Dizzee has done but I aint a fan of his lyrical content sometimes. Promoting violence and pre marital sex is something I will never support. Props to him though. What he has achieved is alot. Being a typical guy from the endz to various top charted songs!
My advice and something I’ll take on board is whats Icie said…’different always wins’. Don’t follow fashion. Be yourself and the best you can be. Everyones unique in their own way. Get the best out of what you’ve been given and try to bring something new to the table. Me as a Christian artist will always find ways to be different and share the message of Jesus to everyone in a way they’ll understand and enjoy!
Also remember that we all need Jesus! Congrats to Dizzee on the number 1 but if he aint got Jesus he’s still lost and when this worlds done his number 1 will not be what is judged on judgement day.
God grants wisdom and this is just a reminder of how much this is needed. Dizzee has a number 1 but will always be remembered for this interview on Barack Obama. ‘If you don’t have Jesus your lost’!
I had my first gig since exams finished today. I rolled with my bois Icie, A Star, Brewer and my cousin Michaela! she’s a heavy poet and watch out for her album later this year! (pay me later cuzzy). It was at Stratford Circus and it was called ‘Youth Against Crime’! I loved it. There was some really talented, inspiring and influential youths that came and also a panel which took answers from the audience! The panel included a police officer and some important people in society! It was hosted by TJ from KEERRRRRCHING! Who remembers that proggramme?….Just me? Cool lol
Yeah well as you probably gathered from the title, the good old gun and knife crime debate came up. This one was different though. It wasn’t just a bunch of Christians saying this epidemic is bad and needs to change (There’s no action in talking), neither was it a bunch of news reporters saying what can we do to tackle this problem, and coming up with NO answers!
Instead this was real realistic people with real life experiences and advice that could infact make a great impact to young offenders. A rowdy carribean woman started off by attacking the police officer over the lenient convictions of those carrrying knives! I felt sorry for the poor coppa, it aint his fault is it ! But anyway he answererd well and ensured her their job is to get the knives off the streets and its the magistrates job to give the punishments!
There was this inspirational dude called ‘Shy’. My man was STABBED 4 TIMES!! Shot 1 time! The 4th time he got stabbed he saw a bright light and said it was God so he gave his life to Christ and became a Christian! Imagine…it took getting stabbed 4 times to realise…dont make the same mistake!
He then talked about how hard it was after that to get out of the life he was living. He talked about being beaten up, having his legs broken too just because he told his bois he wanted out! He got beaten by his own crew!!! MADNESS!
Anyway he pressed on and now he’s giving anti gun and knife crime advice and talks!
My thoughts are ACTION ACTION ACTION! People talk about the issue but how many actually take action and steps to resolvin it. I come from a Christian background and it seems these days Christians are more interested in watching other people, judging other people, wastin time over unneccessary debates and quotes from these great historians and famous people, rather than being the difference in this world and reaching out to the people that need it most!
I’m having mixed thoughts right now. So im on the Cross Movement Records website just browsing as i do. If you don’t know about Cross Movement Records, they are a Christian label who deal with some of the biggest names in Christian Hip-Hop – one of the big names being ‘Ambassador’.
I was browsing the website when i came across the following statement…
It is with much grief, severe disappointment and an overwhelming fear of the Lord that Cross Movement Records is sad to announce that we will be discontinuing the forwarding and promotion of the Artist and Minister, The Ambassador AKA William “Duce” Branch, due to recent findings of moral failure in his marriage. It is CMR’s past, current and prayerfully, future position that living in moral compromise is unacceptable and never allowable in the lives of any of the ministers that we co-labor with.We continue to hold up the teachings of Christ as the standard for all Christians and especially those in Christian leadership and public ministry.Although it is a rare find these days, discipline is still one of the true marks of the true Church.
That being said, we also know according to Hebrews 12:6 that “whom The Lord loves He disciplines.” So we know that our beloved brother Duce is under the Lord’s loving care (Hebrews 12:5-11). We at CMR solicit your prayers for him as he begins the uphill climb of restoration through the process of repentance. We also ask that you remember his wife and children in your quiet time with our Lord as well. We are reminded by Galatians 6:1, that we are to work toward the restoration of our dear brother in due season and also to do such in the spirit of meekness, considering ourselves lest we also be tempted.

This is a bold statement. Now i believe its valid but im not too sure i’m a fan of how they named and shamed him in such detail. Obviously if he’s not practising what he’s preaching or he has certain issues then he needs to take time out and deal with them, however im not too sure CMR would have helped by naming and shaming.
I think a statement saying Ambassador is dealing with some issues and hence forth isn’t working with CMR anymore, pray for him woud have been better! Nobodies perfect and im sure most of the Christian artists in the limelight have done things they wouldn’t want named and shamed. Ya dig
What I can say is that it seems CMR have made the statement in love and keep Ambassador in your praers because it aint easy doing what we do!
I been feeling Mary Mary’s new album ‘ The Sound’ ! Now one of their major hits ‘God In Me’ has been copied and released and caused major controversy. This might put them out of business!
